School Education Program
Bike safety
Road safety education is conducted at the Road Safety Centre. This program encourages students to participate in both practical and theoretical sessions. The Road Safety Officer at the Centre delivers the program in topical, interesting and enjoyable sessions.
The first part of the program covers acceptable road safety practices, which include Occupant Protection, Pedestrian Safety and Safe Passenger Conduct in Cars and School Buses. This session is also flexible and can include any specific requirements that the school would like the Road Safety Officer to cover.
The second part of the program includes Prepare to Ride, Correct Helmet Fitment and Selecting the Correct Size Bike. Students are given the opportunity to perform balance and control exercises on bicycles. They also ride bikes on a miniature road network, which includes traffic lights, road signs and pedestrian crossings.
The airconditioned Centre is equipped with bikes and helmets, has First Aid equipment, a senior first aid officer, sunscreen cream, toilets and cold water fountains all of which will be made available for students during their visits if required. The program is delivered in a safe and controlled environment. All the helmets are sprayed with an approved head lice product every session and there are over 40 helmets to choose from.
For best results this program is delivered in a one and half-hour session, but session times can be changed to support individual needs.
