Conditions of Travel

 

Travelling on buses in the Northern Territory

For a safe and pleasant trip for everyone travelling on public buses it is a condition of travel for passengers to abide by the following:

 

  • Animals: A person shall not bring on to a bus any animal other than a guide dog, hearing dog or assistance dog.
  • Baggage: A person shall not take on the bus any luggage or article that cannot be conveniently carried and (in the opinion of the driver) will interfere with the comfort of other passengers is prohibited.
  • Behaviour: A person that is intoxicated, violent or disturbing the peace, or who is likely to cause annoyance to other passengers or damage the bus in any way (as determined by the driver) will be refused travel.
  • Conduct: A passenger while travelling on a bus shall not play or perform upon any musical instrument, (except for headphones) distribute handbills or advertisements or offer any article for sale.
  • Food and Beverages: A passenger while travelling on a bus shall not eat or drink (except for water in a re sealable container or in the case of a infant liquid in a babies bottle). Takeaway cups with a cap and / or straw are not permitted on the bus.
  • Free Travel and Concession Fares: please ensure you have your valid identification card as proof of entitlement.
  • Hygiene: Any person with soiled clothing or item that may soil the bus or the clothing of a passenger (as determined by the driver) will be refused travel.
  • Smoking: Smoking is strictly prohibited on buses, bus stops and interchanges.
  • Seating: A seated passenger must, if asked by the driver, give up their seat for a passenger with special needs, e.g. a senior citizen, a disabled or mobility impaired person, pregnant women or a parent carrying a small child.
  • Tickets: Please ensure you have the correct fare (Drivers do not have the ability to change large notes).
  • Travel: A passenger while travelling on a bus shall not stand on the seats or ride on the step or any part of the bus other than that provided for the use of passengers.

Failure to comply with the conditions of travel and / or instruction from the Driver or a Transit Officer may results in a refusal of travel, warning or a ban from public transport services.
